This Week’s Goal – Beating Insomnia Round #1

I have been having some serious sleep issues for many months now. At most I will get six hours of sleep, but that will be unrestful sleep. I usually wake up two or three times a night, plus I am always up two hours before I need to be up. I haven’t been able to really figure out the reason why. The lack of sleep is really taking its toll on me. I find that I am irritable and irrational. I also find that I am mentally tired. I have so many things going on right now that it could be causing additional stress.

To try to beat this insomnia I am going to attempt to cut back on my main addiction – coffee. I drink too much coffee. I am one of those people who likes to drink my coffee black because I actually enjoy the taste of coffee. For the purposes of trying to sleep I am going to cut my intake of caffeinated beverages to three cups of coffee and one cup of tea a day, all before 6:00 p.m. I am also going to try to limit my sugar intake, to stop eating sugar after 7:00 p.m. On top of these two things I am going to try to meditate every night.

I will be tracking all of this to see what happens. If avoiding stimulants helps me with sleep it will make me very happy because that means I don’t have to go to the doctor to have medication prescribed. Go me!
