I have always pondered this question. One of the biggest annoyances in my life is thinking that I don’t have a hobby. The official definition of hobby is:
– an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation
I think I have limited myself to thinking of a hobby as an activity that produces something in the end. For example, knitting, writing and photography. I never consider the other interests I have as being hobbies. Based on the official definition, I could consider researching various places to travel to a hobby. I could also consider reading and video games a hobby. Learning new languages, cooking and general research on random topics can all be considered hobbies. It has taken some time to realize that it is ok to do lots of things that don’t produce an end result. If I enjoy doing them that is really all that matters.
