Today was completely a sightseeing day. We went around Wurzburg, which is over 1300 years old. To sum it up – we saw lots! Various churches and the Residence which is a UNESCO – World Heritage site. We also visited the Fortress Marienberg, which was built around 1000. The Mainfrankisches Museum is located in the Fortress and has a large collection of artwork.
Lots of the artwork I saw today, at the museum and the churches depicted religious scenes or figures. Lots of the saints were depicted and it is amazing how many scenes were of them being killed for their beliefs. It was kind of bloody. We also visited a crypt in one of the churches. Another interesting thing I noted was two of the churches had modern artwork instead of the typical works of art on the walls. I would like to come back and take a closer look at some point in the future.
On a sad note my camera broke today. Thankfully, I have one that someone loaned to me for the next two days. I am still posting pictures from today, thank goodness for phones with cameras.
