I am sure you have all heard one of the following before:
– I am not in the holiday spirit
– I haven’t started my shopping yet
– I don’t want to attend that event
– I don’t know what to get them
– I don’t want to decorate
The list goes on. For being one of the most festive times of the year, there seems to be lots of negative thoughts that come with it. It is almost like it has become a season of obligation instead of a season of joy.
The message keeps getting repeated, the holidays aren’t about consumerism, they are about spending time with those you care about (even if it is only yourself). They are about taking the time to slow down and relax. They are about spending time with the people you care about because who knows how many more holiday seasons you will have with them.
The holidays are a perfect chance to begin the practice of living in the moment and being thankful for each moment. There are so many opportunities to give and receive joy. Sharing joy doesn’t have to be only among your family and friends, there are those less fortunate (from people to animals) that could use little joy this season. It is a great time to start the practice of bringing joy to others and keep it up throughout the entire year.
Summing it up, I think the holidays are a perfect time to begin the habit of being grateful and joyful.
Happy Holidays everyone! I am very blessed to have you in my life and share my random thoughts with you. May you find peace and joy in the coming year.
